Arts and Nature: A Mutual Empowerment Between Sky: Children of the Lightand World Turtle Day

The Ministry of Natural Resources announced on June 8th that the theme for this year's World Oceans Day is "Protecting Marine Ecosystems: Harmonious Coexistence Between Humans and Nature." To help contribute to this effort, NetEase Games' Sky: Children of the Light launched a series of community activities on World Turtle Day (May 23rd) and World Oceans Day (June 8th).

Utilizing the interactive gameplay of Sky: Children of the Light, NetEase endeavors to spread the message of sea turtle protection and marine conservation to its gamers through in-game events, including helping sea turtles and cleaning up ocean debris. These events aim to introduce players to the sea turtle's plight and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the species. The game has also released a "Protecting the Sea Turtles" themed HTML5 website to further emphasize the importance of sea turtle conservation.

Internet 2.0 has become increasingly mature in recent years, enabling the Internet to be integrated into all aspects of society. The gaming industry's increasing public influence allows gaming companies to take on social responsibilities with their games and utilize them for raising environmental conversation awareness. With Sky: Child of the Light's relaxing visuals and immersive interactive experience, the game serves as the perfect medium to promote these concepts.

In addition to creating positive values with video games, Sky: Child of the Light collaborates with the China Environmental Protection Foundation to visit the Huidong National Sea Turtle Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province to conduct on-site research on sea turtle conservation. The initiative also hosted lectures in universities such as Sun Yat-sen University and Xiamen University to raise awareness about sea turtle protection and educate the students about marine biology and ecology. This effort has also garnered the attention of National Public Welfare media outlets such as China Philanthropy Times and the China Environment News app.

Through the game's interactive gameplay, Sky: Child of the Light can inspire more people to become sea turtle ambassadors rather than mere spectators. Sky: Child of the Light also collaborated with renowned underwater photographer Fang Zhou on a sea turtle conservation video that has gained over 6 million views and more than 20,000 likes and shares. NetEase also combines gaming with intangible cultural heritage to pave the way for traditional cultural awareness. Sky: Child of the Light worked with Wang Tianwen and Li Haiming, two inheritors of China's intangible cultural heritage, to create a series of shadow puppets and a Cloisonné Enamel mural, depicting the harmonious coexistence between humans and sea turtles, allowing young people to learn about environmental protection while experiencing the charm and significance of Chinese cultural heritage.

Preserving intangible cultural heritage allows the world to appreciate Chinese craftsmanship and further China's cultural development. In support of and participation in the "Nature's Guardian" Chinese Folk Art Exhibition sponsored by the Chinese Folk Artists Association and the Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association, Sky: Child of the Light showcased works created by numerous inheritors of China's intangible cultural heritage, allowing the public to get close to and understand the intricacies of China's intangible cultural heritage. Meanwhile, the "Sky: Child of the Light & Shadow Puppetry Appreciation Event" was held to help pass on and promote the intangible cultural heritage and achieve mutual empowerment between arts and nature.

The gaming industry is no exception as the world continues to evolve and cultures strive to progress. This year, Sky: Child of the Light will launch its second annual World Oceans Day campaign to raise awareness for environmental conservation and coexist with the world around us. Other activities, such as the "Ocean Debris Cleanup Project" and "The Little Prince Book Club," will appear in the game to promote social responsibility. Sky: Child of the Light strives to inspire more gamers to become a part of the initiative and an active preserver of China's cultural heritage, and in the near future, the gaming industry will continue to contribute even more positive values in the service of natural protection and cultural heritage.
